TUTORIALS FAQ

1.What are animation frames?
Frames are pictures that, when played together, form animation. Usually there's 24 (or 25) frames in one second. However in animation we can cut the number on 12 frames per second and so make it less work.
2. What are key frames?
Key frames are parts of animation, where animated character or object show a drastic change in their movement or position (extremes). For example see picture on left.
3. What are inbetweens?
Inbetweens are all frames of animation that take place between "key frame 1" and "key frame 2"
4. What is animation light table?
First and foremost: if you are not animating on computer you'll need one of those for drawing inbetweens.
Light table is made of glass pane (usually you can rotate it) and with a light source underneath.
If you don't have one, you can make it yourself. The easiest (but not very comfortable ;)) way is to get a glass pane (around: 50cm x 40 cm x 0,5 cm), put it on your legs with some light source (lamp) under it. Turn the lamp on and you are ready to animate.
5. How to draw inbetweens?
When we are drawing inbetweens we usually put sheet of paper with "key frame 2" over "key frame1" and on top of that a blank paper. You then draw new frame between lines of key frames.

Also, when there are more frames between keys, you can do it that way:
Let's say there will be 3 inbetweens. First put "key frame2" on top of "key frame1" and draw new frame exactly on half way between them. Then take "key frame1" and put it on top of inbetween you just drew and do the same as before. Repeat the same procedure for "key frame2". See example below.
7. What are Action Points?
Action points are another way how to help yourself with drawing inbetweens.
If you have problems with deciding where new line should be placed, use small points and place them on important areas of key frames. When you'll start drawing inbewteens, first move points and let them guid you when you'll draw final lines. See picture below.
6. Tutorials are nice, but I have some more questions...
